Traffic & use
Map entrances, queues, trolleys, fitting rooms and staff areas. A showroom and a busy convenience store can need different systems. Review the manufacturer’s intended use and commercial warranty conditions.
Start with how the space works. Then match the finish, maintenance and installation program to it.

Decide who cleans the floor, how often and with what equipment. Ask about stain resistance, compatible cleaning products and any sealing or recoating requirements.
A finish is only as reliable as the surface below it. Assess the slab, existing coverings and adhesives before allowing for take-up, moisture treatment or levelling.
Work backwards from the opening date. Product lead times, centre approvals, preparation, adhesive curing and protection during other trades all affect the program.
| Flooring | Where to consider it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| LVT / vinyl plank | Sales floors, shops and showrooms | Wear layer, adhesive, flatness and replacement stock |
| Carpet tile | Fitting rooms, consultation and staff areas | Traffic rating, cleaning and tile replacement |
| Cork & rubber | Retail interiors with comfort and design priorities | Profile, sealing and care requirements |
| Timber | Feature retail and premium showrooms | Moisture, movement, finish and maintenance |
| Commercial sheet vinyl | Areas with specific cleaning or functional needs | Welds, coving, slip requirements and substrate |
Look for a clearly defined product and quantity, preparation allowances, take-up and disposal, installation method, trims and transitions, access assumptions, exclusions and timing. Ask how unexpected substrate issues will be handled before work begins.
Rain at entrances, spills and cleaning can change how a floor performs. Discuss entrance matting and any slip-resistance requirements for the actual use of each zone. Product ratings alone do not replace a site-specific assessment. Premrest also offers commercial floor care and slip testing.
Ask for the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance at handover, keep spare modular material where appropriate, and agree who is responsible for protecting the floor during the remaining fit-out works.
It depends on traffic, store layout, cleaning and the brand experience. LVT is often considered for sales floors, carpet tile for quieter zones, and cork or timber where the finish and feel are priorities. A site assessment helps narrow the specification.
Premrest can discuss staged, after-hours and weekend works. Access approvals, preparation time, adhesive curing and the store layout affect what is possible. Share your trading hours and opening date when you enquire.
The product, floor area, existing floor removal, moisture condition, levelling, trims and site access all affect the price. Send plans and project details for a quote that identifies the agreed supply, preparation and installation scope.
